N.L. awakes to higher gas prices

Gasoline prices rose across most of Newfoundland and Labrador Thursday, while consumers in southern Labrador woke up to a case of sticker shock.
The province's fuels regulator raised maximum prices for gasoline by 1.1 or 1.2 cents per litre, depending on rounding for taxes in different geographic areas of the province.

Oil could shoot to $200 US within the next two years as part of a "super-spike," investment bank Goldman Sachs said Tuesday, as crude cruised to a record price north of $122 per barrel and at least one Calgary station briefly advertised regular gasoline at a record $1.29 per litre.

Prices posted outside Newfoundland and Labrador gas stations jumped again Thursday, as the province's fuels regulator approved the second five-cent increase in a week.
The Petroleum Pricing Office raised maximum allowable prices of gasoline by 5.1 or 5.2 cents per litre, depending on rounding for taxes in different geographic zones.
