Using LEDs in homes is nothing new, especially if you are pursuing green living.  What is a fairly new, is the dimmable LED light.  New technological developments  finally  made it possible to overcome the challenges and produce dimmable LED lights.  Dimmer switch and dimmable LED light  have to  be totally compatible so that the lights  function correctly.  Dimmer switches and circuits  should never be combined with normal LED lights.

An LED light will consume approximately 1/5 of the energy that a incandescent light uses, for the same lumens. A 12W LED bulb can be used instead of a 60W incandescent bulb. The savings can be even more (up to 90%) if you use LEDs for directiional lighting, for example for to illuminate a painting.

These plus points of LED lights are mentioned below:

1. LED bulbs are non-toxic: Mercury is not used in manufacturing LED lights.

2. considerably less heat is produced by LED bulbs, in comparison with incandescent lights. Air conditioning will operate less, if all the incandescent ligths are replaced with LED bulbs. 3.    Long lasting: LED light bulbs can last up ten times as long as a comparable incandescent light, which means that an LED light can last up to 20 years..

3. Long life: An LED light is long lasting and will not require replacement for many years.

4. The low power requirement of LEDs makes them ideal for homes with solar electric collectors.

Fluorescent or incandescent  lights are less expensive than LEDs. The lower energy use and longer lifetime of LEDs on the other hand, make them much cheaper than incandescent lights.
