B.C. carbon tax boosts prices at gas pump Posted 2009-07-02 07:59:21
British Columbia got a little greener on Wednesday: The province celebrated the first anniversary of its carbon tax with a price bump at the gas pumps.
The tax, brought in by the government last year in a bid to curb public demand for fossil fuels, increased to 3.6 cents on a litre of gasoline from 2.4 cents.

If you haven't gassed up yet and you're out and about, consider doing so -- a gas industry watcher predicts the price will jump 2.5 cents per litre at midnight.
Liberal MP Dan McTeague said Monday on his website that the Toronto average gasoline price will rise to 100.3 cents per litre.

VANCOUVER - Last summer, gasoline prices in Vancouver peaked at $1. 485 per litre. This year, barring hurricanes or other unforeseen disruptions, the summer peak is likely to be a lot lower.

The price of gasoline for most Newfoundland and Labrador consumers rose again Thursday as the provincial regulator responded to climbing oil prices.
The maximum prices of all grades of gas rose Thursday by 4.3 cents or 4.4 cents per litre, with the difference due to rounding for taxes in different pricing zones.
